The Seattle AnitaB.org chapter is pleased to announce the return of a Hopperx1 conference to the region in 2019.

Amazon Meeting Center

As with the 2017 event, Hopperx1 Seattle will be modeled after GHC and held in partnership with AnitaB.org.

For 2019, in response to your feedback and interest, we are expanding the content to 4 tracks that will span 2 days of exciting keynotes, career and technical content showcasing the thought leadership of the Seattle area female tech talent, while remaining true to our stated goals of:

  • Growing Community
  • Strengthening our Collective, Diverse Voices
  • Fostering Inclusion
  • Inspiring Action

Attend

We welcome people of all genders and backgrounds to attend 2019 Hopperx1 Seattle. Our program will be designed to:

  • Celebrate technical impact and accomplishments of women and gender diverse folk at all career and academic levels
  • Enable women to network with peers, allies and mentors in the Seattle area, and support one another along their career paths
  • Equip women and allies with technical and career skills through a variety of interactive and hands-on sessions
  • Inspire curiosity and action whether you are an experienced technologist or new to the technology field

To make attendance accessible to all, we will provide flexible registration options, including a full two-day general registration and a limited number of scholarships that provides free admission to all programs, career fair and lunch for two days.

Who We Are

The local Seattle AnitaB.org community is part of a network of self-organized local communities that meet in person to grow and support current and aspiring women technologists. Our purpose is to inspire women to pursue and remain in technical fields, and provide the guidance they need to advance their careers.

GENERAL

Will you release any more registrations or sell registration at the door?
We are unable to release any additional registrations. To be notified of future events, please join the Seattle AnitaB.org Community.
Can I still sponsor Hopperx1 Seattle?
Thanks for your interest, but we’re excited to say Hopperx1 Seattle sponsorships are sold out. There may be additional opportunities for you to sponsor our events later. Email BusinessDevelopment@AnitaB.org for more info.
Can I still volunteer?
Volunteers are our best resource. We are covered for this event. However, we’ll definitely need volunteers again, so if you’re still interested, join our mailing list to be notified when we’re looking for volunteers!

How do I get to the Amazon Meeting Center?

From the north, head south on I-5 and take exit 166 (Stewart St). Then take Stewart Street to Denny Street, turn right, follow the street as it curves to the left and becomes Lenora Street, then turn left onto 7th Avenue. The Amazon Meeting Center will be on your right.

From the south, head north on I-5 and take exit 165 (Seneca Street). Take a slight right onto 6th Avenue, then turn right on Westlake Avenue, stay left and take a sharp turn left onto Lenora Street, then turn left onto 7th Avenue. The Amazon Meeting Center will be on your right.

Where should I park?
Due to extremely limited on-site parking options at Amazon, use of alternative modes of transportation is strongly encouraged. The closest garage to the Meeting Center (2021 7th Ave Garage) will most likely be full on Friday; it is not recommended that you drive on this day. Parking availability on Saturday is much more likely. Parking validation is not available.

Is there a coat/bag check?
Unfortunately, we will not have space to accommodate coat and/or bag check.
Is there a mothers’ room?
Yes! The Mothers’ Room will be located on the first floor of the Amazon Meeting Center, and signs will direct you to the location.
Where can I find the conference agenda?

Are the Systers or Underrepresented Women in Computing Lunches by invitation only?
Not at all! These lunches are intended to be inclusive. Feel free to join the community lunches. Please note we do need to adhere to the capacity limit for the room and when the room is at capacity, we will be unable to accommodate further participants. Arrive early!
Is the Scholars Lunch by invitation only?
Yes. For those unfamiliar with our scholarship program, AnitaB.org awarded 50 Hopperx1 Seattle registration scholarships based on an application process that started in late 2018. The Hopperx1 Seattle scholarship recipients have a private lunch on Friday to meet and mingle.
Can I check in and pick up my badge before 8 a.m. on Friday, March 22?
There is no early check in, so please be prompt for the 8 a.m. opening.
I just found out I won't be able to attend and would like to transfer my ticket to someone else. Can you help me?
Absolutely! Contact us at Seattle@CommunityAnitaB.org for registration transfers. Please be aware that all registration transfers need to be completed by Tuesday, March 19, at 5 p.m. PT. Please note that all sales are final and cannot be cancelled or refunded. You may substitute a new attendee if you are not able to attend or we can help connect you with someone who is interested in a ticket transfer.
When is the Career Fair?
The Career Fair will be held Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. It will be in the area outside the main conference rooms – you won’t be able to miss it!
What can I expect from the Career Fair?
During the Career Fair, you will have the opportunity to meet the corporate, academic, and nonprofit sponsors whose support allowed us to host this event. You can learn more about what they do and if you’re looking for new opportunities, you can share your resume and start discussions to see if there is a good fit for future employment. Check out the Career Fair Map to see who will be there.

How do I register the attendees that will use the conference passes that come with my sponsorship?
You should have received registration codes when the sponsor contract was finalized. Please contact BusinessDevelopment@AnitaB.org if you cannot find these registration codes. Please note that all attendees need to be registered by Tuesday, March 19, at 5 p.m. PT.
I am an exhibitor at the Career Fair. Where can I find more details for that event?
Please see the Career Fair Sponsor Information for all the details.
How are exhibit locations determined and when will I find out my tabletop exhibit location?
Tabletop exhibit location assignments are done by the AnitaB.org staff based on sponsorship level, date of agreement and receipt of payment. They were emailed to all exhibitors on March 11.

SPEAKER

When are speaker presentations due?
Speaker presentation drafts are due by Friday, March 8. Your final presentations must be delivered by March 13. All presentations will be loaded on the presentation machines in the Meeting Center and Doppler.
Can I use my own laptop?
For presentations in the Meeting Center, we can consider speakers using their own machines on a case by case basis, but it is not recommended. Please email Seattle@CommunityAnitaB.org if you have any questions.

For presentations in Doppler, you may use your own laptop. Cables will be available, but please feel free to bring your own. Please let us know ahead of time if you are intending to use your own laptop during your presentation.

How should I handle video or audio clips in my presentation?
Presentation machines are air-gapped and are not connected to the internet, therefore, all media content in any presentation needs to be embedded into the PowerPoint presentations themselves.
What types of microphones are available?
We have both lavalier and handheld microphones available. Our best practice is to put speakers on lavaliers. For panels of 4 or more, we offer 1 handheld microphone for every 2 panelists and 1 dedicated handheld microphone for the moderator.
Will speakers be able to see their presentation notes?
Speakers in the Meeting Center will be able to see their presentation notes through a confidence monitor in front of the stage with the PowerPoint presenter view. A slide advancer will also be provided.
Does my presentation time include Q&A?
The time allotted for your presentation, workshop, or panel is inclusive of Q&A time, so please plan accordingly.
When should I get to my session?
Please arrive at your session during the talk before yours, so the session chair can meet with you and get you fitted for a microphone.
Can I do a sound check?
No, we will not be able to provide time for sound check. Please email Seattle@CommunityAnitaB.org if you have any questions.
