On November 9, 2016, New York City will host its second GHC/1 event.
GHC/1 is one-day locally organized event is modelled after the internationally renowned Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC). The event provides a rich platform for companies, students and professional women to come together and advance a gender-diverse technology workforce.
The theme for this year’s GHC/1 is “Entrepreneurship, Intrapreneurship & Other Tech Jobs.” The event will be led by the ABI.NYC community, founding partners and volunteer commitee. Our many panels and tracks will explore what personal and professional skills are needed to advance your career and succeed in the tech field.
Our featured speakers will also delve into what it means to be successful and how to overcome obstacles in your career path. The speakers will include Peggy Wallace, Managing Partner of Golden Seeds, and Jen Wagner, Head of BNY Mellon’s Pittsburgh Innovation Center.
And of course, there will be plenty of time to meet and network with other women in tech. Lunch and snacks will be served at GHC/1, and a cocktail reception will follow the event.
We are very excited for 2016 GHC/1 – ABI.NYC, especially considering just how well received last year’s event was. 2015 GHC/1 was the first event of its kind for New York and proved to be a great success.
Attendees were thrilled with the number of activities planned for the day. They listened to inspiring speeches from several leading women in technology, including Dr. Deborah Estrin, Dr. Francine Berman and Dr. Sibel Adali, just to name a few. There were also group sessions on technology and career development, as well as a career fair for companies to interact with women at all levels from various organizations and universities.
What truly made GHC/1 a success, however, was the enthusiasm of our attendees. We had a plethora of companies, talented technologists and young, aspiring students attend, all of who were eager to celebrate women in computing and promote diversity and inclusion in the Big Apple.
GHC/1 is a wonderful opportunity to both support women in tech and advance your own career. We are so glad that it has become an annual event for NYC.
